The Roxbury Arts Group presents Athabascan and Iñupiaq songwriter Quinn Christopherson in concert on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Roxbury Arts Center. Quinn will also be leading a storytelling workshop at the Headwaters Center for the Arts on Sunday, Oct. 6 from noon - 5 p.m. in Stamford. The concert will be held at the Roxbury Arts Center located at 5025 Vega Mountain Road, Roxbury and the workshop will take place at The Headwaters Arts Center located at 66 Main Street in Stamford. Quinn Christopherson was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska where storytelling and music were vehicles by which his family shared their care and their culture. His songwriting is informed by this storytelling tradition as well as his personal journey, resulting in music which is authentic, well crafted and often moving. His 2022 album, Write Your Name in Pink, incorporates upbeat synth-pop elements that counterpoint sometimes painful but compassionately handled personal stories in his music. Quinn was the winner of NPR’s Tiny Desk contest in 2019. His submission “Erase Me” is a song which struggles his feelings of male privilege both before and after transition- powerfully exclaiming “I’ve got a voice now, I’ve got power and I can’t stand it”. It is a notable indictment of the patriarchy and an anthem to the complexities of identity in our times.
On Sunday Oct. 6, Quinn will be offering a 5-hour storytelling workshop at the Headwaters Arts Center.
