Hobart Rotary Meet & Greet Sept. 19

Posted

America is experiencing a loneliness epidemic, according to the U.S. Surgeon General, and the Hobart Rotary is on a mission to make sure that nobody in our small community suffers from social isolation.

To that end, the club is hosting the Hobart Rotary Club Meet & Greet on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. (doors open at 5:30) at the Hobart Community Center at 80 Cornell Avenue.

All neighbors in Hobart and surrounding communities are invited.  Members will share information and answer questions about who they are and why they love being a part of the Rotary mission. Light refreshments will be served.

Many people have enjoyed the annual Hobart Sausage and Brew Fest. The Club also hosts a free Thanksgiving dinner for the village (Mallinckrodt donates the turkeys!), a pancake breakfast, a celebratory grill party for graduating seniors; delivers holiday fruit baskets to homebound seniors; beautifies the village with flower baskets and highway cleanup; and sponsors the Backback Program that feeds hungry children along with many beneficial programs for health, environment, and education such as mental health initiatives, plastics reduction, children’s summer reading, youth leadership training and student exchange.

As part of Rotary International, with 46,000 clubs and 1.4 million members, Rotarians are connected to “people-of-action” in nearly every country of the world, helping to build sustainable projects from literacy and peace to water and health. Rotarians work together with remarkable success to make the world a better place, creating positive changes across the globe, in our local communities, and in ourselves. Uniting with other good people to create lasting change is the antidote to loneliness and despair. It is joyous work.
