James “Jim” Stanton Jr., 93, Walton, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 30, 2024 at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.

Jim was born May 19, 1931 in Walton to James and Freida Stanton. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Walton and was an active member of the community. He was owner of the One Stop Sport Shop and the Walton Advisor for many years. Jim was a deputy in the Delaware County Sheriff’s department and a postal carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the Walton Fire Department, the Masonic Lodge, a 70+ year member of the American Legion and a partner in the Four Aces Hunt Club. Jim was an avid hunter, loved to play cards, read western books, work on jumble puzzles and drink coffee with his friends.

Jim is survived by his four children, Lucinda Howard of Worcester, Dale Stanton (Luci Hopps), Kevin Stanton (Deb), and Kandy Stanton (David Sprague) all of Walton, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Bonnie Stanton of Winter Haven, Florida and nephew Ty Stanton Jr., of Dundee, Florida.

A private service for the family will be held at a later date.
