Melanie S. Renner, 79, of Middle Road, passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, in the Oneida Health Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Downsville on May 2, 1945, she was the daughter of Ward and Mildred Shaw Neff. A Munnsville resident for over 40 years, she moved from her homestead in Downsville to Georgetown in 1973, and then to Munnsville in 1981. Renner on Sept. 25, 1971, in Walton.

Prior to her retirement with more than fifteen years of employment, Melanie was employed by Bassett Healthcare in Hamilton as a medical transcriptionist.

Melanie was very involved in the care of her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them and family. She had a deep love for animals, from lambs as a child to her calves and cats as an adult. She adored watching the birds that visited the back and front porch, especially the hummingbirds and red belly woodpeckers. Prior to having children, Melanie was an integral part of the dairy farm and maple syrup operation she shared with her husband. She was a member of the Stockbridge United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband Robert of Munnsville; children Robert (Jaime) Renner II of Munnsville and Jennifer (Bradley) Hilts of Verona; six grandchildren, Caleb, Hunter (Kyle), Andrew, Braden, Brandon and Matthew; one great-grandson Lane; sister-in-law Joy Hamilton of Otego; brothers-in-law John (Susie) Renner of Washington, New Jersey, James (Nancy) Renner of Stillwater and Jay Renner of Bovina Center and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by brothers Robert and Ward-Alvin; sisters Zoe, Katherine, Mildred and Elizabeth; her parents Ward and Mildred Neff and her parents-in-law John and Marie Renner.

Melanie’s family would like to thank the staff at the Oneida Health Rehabilitation, Extended Care Facility and HCR Home Care for their compassionate care over the past several years.
